Most states have had a nice increase in budgets since 2005, but that trend is coming to an end this year. The previous two years have been very financially positive for most states around the country. This has meant more money for higher education.

States have actually increased spending on higher education for 2008 by between 7% to as much as 10% across the board with the exception of Rhode Island and Vermont who reported drops in spending for higher education. This is good news in the short term, but if state budgets continue to drop, it won’t be long before education takes a hit.
